Janasena and TDP alliance: A good decision or a political compromise?

Recently, Pawan Kalyan announced a coalition between Janasena and TDP parties. He said that the two parties would fight together and defeat YSRCP in the 2024 elections.

After Chandrababu Naidu was taken into custody, the TDP party is in some disarray. Lokesh has already been issued notices by the AP CID in the Outer Ring Road case. Although Lokesh cannot be arrested at the moment, the fact that he has stopped his padayatra for the past 20 days and is staying in Delhi only suggests that TDP is going through a difficult time.

In such a situation, many people are questioning why Pawan Kalyan chose to ally with TDP instead of taking advantage of this opportunity. Janasena’s main principle is to win elections without sharing money or buying votes. In order to replace the position of the very strong Telugu Desam Party in terms of economics, society, and media, Janasena may have to put aside even that main principle. It is a bit difficult to significantly increase the vote share without sharing money or buying votes. Pawan Kalyan is not unaware of all of these things, and he has closely observed the last 3 elections.

In addition to caste equations and money, Telugu politics is about media management. It is very common to control people’s minds and thoughts through favorable media. Janasena does not have any media, so it is a bit difficult to achieve strong seats by standing up to the media of TDP and YSRCP. Even if Janasena had contested alone, there is a high chance that YSRCP would have won due to a split in votes. If this happens, it will not be an easy task to keep the party workers mentally motivated for another 5 years. In addition, Janasena is not a financially strong party either. It runs on the money earned from Pawan Kalyan’s films and the money donated by his fans.

If Janasena travels with TDP instead of alone, the TDP + Janasena + anti-government votes will be combined, so there is a good chance of winning most of the seats contested. This may have seemed like a good opportunity to take those who have been supporting the party for the past ten years to the assembly with him. Pawan Kalyan may have believed that this is the opportunity to show what he will really do after questioning for so long and saying what he can do.

If Janasena wins and shares power with TDP, and develops the state in terms of policies, it will be the first step in strengthening the party in both Telugu states. It seems that it is a good decision to move forward politically with all those who have supported Janasena rather than going separately and choosing an unknown path.

Only time will tell whether Pawan Kalyan’s decision to ally with TDP was the right one. However, it is clear that this alliance is a major development in Andhra Pradesh politics.
