YS Sharmila, the president of YSRTP, made a sensational decision on Friday, the first day of the nomination process for the Telangana elections. She announced that her party will not contest the elections and will instead support the Congress party.
Few days ago, Sharmila announced that YSRTP will contest in 119 seats in Telangana elections and she choose to contest from Paderu assembly constituency. Sharmila’s party was also allocated a ‘binocular’ symbol by the ECI for the state Assembly elections due on November 30. In a much-expected turn of events, YSRTP has withdrawn from contesting in the state Assembly election in favour of Congress.
Sharmila said that she took this decision because she did not want to split the anti-KCR vote. She said that she believes that the Congress party has a good chance of winning the elections, and that supporting them would be the best way to defeat KCR.
Here are some of the key points of Sharmila’s announcement:
- YSRTP will not contest the Telangana elections.
- Sharmila has called on her party’s supporters to vote for the Congress party.
- Sharmila said that she made this decision because she did not want to split the anti-KCR vote.
- She believes that the Congress party has a good chance of winning the elections.
It remains to be seen whether Sharmila’s decision will be a success for her political career.
