Low Results: Janasena Fails to Make a Mark in Telangana

Although the party was established in 2014, it took ten years for Janasena to compete in the Telangana elections. Janasena announced that it would contest no less than 32 seats in Telangana, but ultimately formed an alliance with the BJP and contested eight seats.

Despite attracting large crowds to his rallies, Janasena’s chief, Pawan Kalyan, Janasena lost deposits in all eight seats it contested.

Janasena’s candidates in the elections with vote percentage received – Mekala Satish Reddy from Kodad (1.03%), Nemuri Shankar Goud from Tandur (2.33%), Miryalla Ramakrishna from Khammam (1.71%), Lakkineni Surender Rao from Kothagudem (1.04%), Muya Boyina Uma Devi from Aswaraopeta (1.67%), Sampath Nayak from Vaira (1.6%), Vangala Lakshman Goud from Nagar Kurnool (1.06%), and Mummareddy Prem Kumar from Kukatpally (15.88%).

Despite entering the Kukatpally race with high hopes and a sizeable Andhra settler population, Janasena’s performance fell short of expectations. The party failed to secure a significant share of votes in the constituency. Meanwhile, BRS candidate Madhavaram Krishna Rao emerged victorious with a commanding margin of 64,000 votes.

It remains to be seen how these developments will affect AP politics and how Janasena will adjust to them.
